It means your master password never leaves your device. All encryption and decryption happens locally in your browser or app — we only store ciphertext. Even if our servers were compromised, attackers would only see scrambled data. We can't reset your master password because we never see it.
For personal accounts, your master password cannot be recovered (it's the trade-off of zero-knowledge). We strongly recommend setting up an emergency contact and writing down your recovery key. For team accounts, admins can grant emergency access to a designated recovery admin who can re-encrypt your vault after a configurable wait period (typically 7 days).
